The National coordinator All Electricity consumers protection Forum fault Senate stand on the purported halting of the increase in tariff

The national cordinator, of consumers group in response to the news that the Senate in their resolution on the debate on increase on tariff slated for next year as approved by Nigerian Electricity Regulatory commission remain advisory as the power to regulate and fix tariff in NESI remain in the hand of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory commission therefore the resolution of Senate to the effect that they suspended it remain advisory.
He hings his stand on the provisions of Electricity Act 2024 as amended which gives such power to the NERC and section 34(1)(4) of same Act which allows Nerc to act as unbiased umpires in regulations of the activities between consumers and Discos. Section 114(2)(b) was unambiguous as to who hold the power to approved increase in tariff when all perquisites and process have been fulfilled.
Except the Senate liars with president and directive comes from him, the decision and resolution of the Senate on the matter remains advisory and or rather playing to the gallery.
This is so because the increase template have been approved by Nerc issued out to all stakeholders according to the dictate of the section 114 of Electricity Act and it has been said to take effect in January 2025 which I believe the discos are waiting to activate. Only the president can issue directive to the contrary. National coordinator, All Electricity consumers protection Forum. Ambassador Adeola Samuel -Ilori
