All Electricity Consumer protection forum 2025 power sector expectations and projections

I’m sorry there’s no indices to project for a better take on the power sector in 2025. Without being pessimistic, the grid collapsed maybe worse than we witnessed in 2024 as there’s been no move to show any sign of government intention to improve the attempt at changing the moribund equipment and obsolete machineries that led to the collapsed of the grid. Presently, we don’t know the state of semen agreement entered by the last administration which the present government has halted by entering I to another the details still remain in secrecy unlike the last one which gives details of execution, even takes off late but the first tranche has almost completed before the exist of last government which would have give hopes as to improvement on those areas to prevent further grid collapsed. The discos too have no intention to improve on the line materials they are using to distribute to consumers like transformers and other materials that will ensure seamless distribution of power to all their franchise areas without the issues of damage tension wire or moribund transformer which they are using to service about 13 streets in some areas of their business. ‘
I have two cases scenario under Ikeja electric presently that may cause some damages which may eventually trigger grid collapsed. A community in ijoko area with such life threatened incident of tension wire near fall off and pulled off that may even endanger the life of consumers, this has been reported to them for the last two or three months, but till date despite the directive to the business unit manager Engr Dosumu, he has not for a moment take a decisive move to remedy it only sent his men to see the truism of  the claims. Until the communities involved reported  to my office in December that he said by the first or second week of January,he will made effort to fix it. Just imagine that anything happens to the tensions wire especially those near collapsed, it will definitely endanger lives and most sure that the grid may be affected.
The second one too under Ikeja electric too at abaranaje area, the transformer is obviously obsolete and near collapsed the Ikeja electric has been notified many times but because they see the area and their situation as a way of exploitation which will allowed them to be billed without getting prerequisite supply, they have neglected it but subjected them to one day On and two days off. Looking at these scenarios, and no sign in sight to know that they are ready to improve the service delivery, no one can project positively to see better power sector activities in 2025. Insanity is doing one thing over and over again and expect different results. The only thing I’m sure of improvement in the power sector in 2025 is the Nerc usual chorus of “the sector needs cost reflective tariff to attract investors”. That I can project accurately that it will be activated because it has already been approved last year January with proviso that it will be effective in January 2025.
Without being totally insensitive, the only positive side of the sector in 2025 foreseen is the approval of states to run the sector in their area by the state government in fulfilment of electricity Act,2023 as amended which allows the state now to do the business. Unfortunate, Lagos has not come out with how they intended to take off and how the special grant of regulatory commission will effect a good thing in the sector and how we will see the likes of Eko disco and Ikeja electric will so business better and not as they used to do.
One thing I can positively tell you is that All Electricity Consumer protection forum in which I’m the national Coordinator are more than ready to take them up in any areas of service infarction against consumers’rights. Both the Ikeja electric and Eko disco subco that may be created to serve under the new arrangement and the state regulatory commission,  We will double our efforts to see that the new subco will not go the way of 11 years of sordid experience under the monopolistic privatisation of Nerc. As we are we are ready more than before to make sure the Lagos State consumer protection regulations will be stringent in provisions of line materials including prepaid meters and transformer as prerequisite to give them licence to operate. And above all the forum efforts at getting justice over the illegal increase in Band A tariff of April 2024 continues at the federal high court Ibadan, to get it reverse and  so as to breath a relief to hapless Consumers under this illusion of categorisation with no megawatts generated to meet the service.
National Coordinator.
Compliments.
